rio de janeiro generated a strong sense of contrasting urban fabrics and practices that would inform following travels throughout brazil. a nature of collage gives rio it's simultaneous identities, including colonial and modern, urban and undeveloped, a whole city and city of islands, always seemingly side by side. site visits were primarily focused on grassroots craft work organizations and community art projects seeking improved quality of life and recognition for the city's most disenfranchised population.
